Statement:
Contemporary women artists and the perceptions of women in the art world are constantly in flux between two positions. Some female artists can feel pressured to work as solitary, monolithic creators in order become successful or distinctive. For others, there exists a sense of community and a desire to work together within the larger context of feminism and gender awareness. The tensions and boundaries between these two states of being must constantly be negotiated.
